Planning approval received for our Goldfields Women’s Refuge -Project Hope

Elite Compliance is very excited to announce that planning approval for our Goldfields Women’s Refuge Hope project has been received in October. This is a great milestone because this project will help to relieve the significant shortfall in accommodation for Women who are escaping domestic violence in the Goldfields region.

What is the Goldfields Women’s Refuge?

The existing women’s refuge was originally established in 1979, to provide safe, short-term, 24-hour crisis accommodation and support for women, with or without children (under the age of 18), who are escaping domestic violence, homelessness, and other related crises. The Department of Communities funds the operational costs of the Goldfields Women’s Refuge.

The current refuge operates on a 24-hours a day, seven-days-a-week basis that has monitored surveillance over six bedrooms and a shared living configuration of up to 19 people. Rooms can be allocated to families or allocated to a collective of single persons. All external and communal areas of the property are under 24-hour monitored surveillance to ensure the safety of both residents and staff.

Domestic violence is an ever-increasing problem and the demand for crisis accommodation has increased significantly with a problematic shortfall in the Goldfields.

Each and every day Goldfields Women’s Refuge regrettably turns women and children away due to a lack of beds yet women continue to sleep outside of the facility in sheer desperation to escape their situation.

This will hopefully not be the case for that much longer.

Goldfields Women’s Refuge – Project Hope Planning Approval

Planning permission for the construction of an additional 48 beds at the rear of the existing refuge has now been granted. This development will be part of a multistage project with an upgrade to the existing facility planned should surplus funds be available.

This additional capacity will begin to accommodate some of this shortfall whilst enhancing both the quality of life and amenity for Goldfields families living with domestic violence.

With the help of the community, this will be the first of many projects built to alleviate the massive shortfall in crisis accommodation for women who are victims of domestic violence.

What is the next stage?

We are delighted to have reached the next stage in this project! The design development of the accommodation is now underway. This means that we are working on detailed designs for each and every room, as well as the communal areas. We want to create quality spaces that feel safe and are also functional and comfortable for the women and children who will be living here.
