What types of building certifications are there?
There are three different types of certification available in Australia:
1. Design Certification
This is the process of assessing a new or existing building against the relevant Building Code of Australia (BCA) to ensure it meets certain safety, structural and energy efficiency standards prior to application for Building Permit.
2. Construction Certification
This is a document that confirms that a building has been constructed in accordance with the relevant standards and is safe for occupancy.
3. Retrospective Certification
This is a document that confirms that an illegally constructed building has been assessed and is deemed suitable for occupation and meets all the necessary safety requirements for its use and classification.
